The data that was observed supports the idea that planting ohia on idfferent hosts will help the population to grow faster for transfer and outplanting.  Other efforts such as cutting down koa haole and strawberry guava helps ohia to grow faster because there is less competition and more water for the native plants to go.  Clearing non native plants allows the ohia to grow taller and stronger providing shelter and shade for plants below them.
